The Skin

피부색이나 피부의 상태는 인간이 가지고 있는 다섯 가지 감각들 중, 시각을 통해 색과 모양을 가장 먼저 그리고 가장 크게 느낄 수 있다. 또한 피부는 인간의 신체에 많은 부분을 차지하고 있으며, 이는 환경에 가장 먼저 반응하는 것을 우리의 눈으로 확인할 수가 있다. 특히 피부색은 첫 인상에도 강하게 남는 시각적 기억이며, 긍정적 혹은 부정적 선입견과 편견을 가지게 하는 시각적 언어이다.

나의 작업은 이러한 피부들을 자세히 관찰하여 마치 현미경으로 확대해서 보듯 유리와 디지털이미지를 통해 극사실적으로 확대 표현하였다. 유리는 시각적으로 빛을 통해 사물을 굴절 또는 굴곡지어 보이게 표현 할수있는 렌즈역할과 효과를 만들어낼 수 있으며 또한 피부와 비슷한 성격을 가지고 있다. 즉, 빛과 온도에 반응하며 외부로부터 물리적인 힘에 의해 색이나 형태가 변화하는 물성적 특징을 가지고 있다. 이러한 물성적 변화는 유리가 고온에서 이루어지는 변화를 모티브로 일반적인 현미경이 아닌 작가의 경험을 통해 눈에 보이는 피부색과 무늬들을 더욱 더 사실적으로 표현하였다. 피부를 확대, 왜곡시키므로 시각적 선입견, 부정적 편견 등의 인종차별의 기준이 피부의 시각적 이미지에 있지않음을 표현, 강조하고있다. 

The state of skin or skin color accounts for many part of the human body as much as you can feel the color and shape first or the biggest of the five senses that humans have, which we the first to react to the environment and it is to be confirmed by eye. In particular, it remains strong visual memory; even the complexion is the first impression, the visual language that has positive or negative preconceptions and prejudices. 

My work observes the detail and close-up of skin represents a photographic realism through glass and the digital image like looking with microscope. Glass is a visual object can create a lens role and effect can be expressed as refracted or bent by the light, and also has a similar character of skin that is in response to light, temperature and color by the physical force from the outside and the forms have changed to physical characteristics.

The change of the physical characteristic expands the skin as a way to emphasize the color and pattern visual through my experience rather than general microscope.This change made in hotglass with even more realisticdistorts the visual preconceptions and the standard of racial discrimination, such as not to prejudice the negative representation of visual images of the skin.
