<2018 신소장품>전은 대전시립미술관이 2018년에 수집한 작품들을 한 자리에 모은 전시다.
공립미술관의 주요 역할 중 하나는 동시대의 미술흐름을 반영하는 우수 작품을 수집하는 일이다.
작품을 연구하고 전시와 교육으로 활용하는 것, 보존관리하여 후세를 위한 문화유산으로 물려주는 것은
모두 작품수집을 근간으로 한다. 대전시립미술관은 1998년 개관 이래 객관적인 수집정책을 바탕으로 미술사적으로
유의미한 작품을 수집하고 있다. 2018년은 2005년에 재정비된 수집정책을 따라 한국의 근현대미술을 대표하는 작품,
대전의 근현대미술을 대표하는 작품, 한국의 뉴미디어 부문을 대표하는 작품을 대상으로 했다.
신소장품은 총 34점으로 이 중 구입작품이 18점, 기증작품이 16점이다. 기증작품의 경우 컬렉터에 의한 기증이 5점,
작가에 의한 기증이 11점이었다. 시리즈로 구성된 작품의 개별점수까지 포함하면 총 112점에 달하는 많은 수의 작품이 수집되었다. 공간의 제약을 최소화하고 각 작품의 의미와 조형성을 보다 잘 전달하기 위해 본 전시는 전시기간을 나누어 1부는 평면작품을 중심으로, 2부는 입체작품을 중심으로 기획되었다. 이번 신소장품들이 다루고 있는 여러 주제들을 1960년대
부터 2010년대까지 반세기를 아우르는 동시대의 미술흐름 안에서 조명하고자 한다.
DMA 2018 New Acquisitions: Various Facets is an exhibition that features all the artworks acquired by
DMA over the past year. The most important function of a public art museum is acquiring artworks of
excellent quality that reflect contemporary art trends. This function forms the basis for all other
museum activities, including research on artworks, the use of artworks for exhibitions and educational
purposes, and the preservation and maintenance of artworks to ensure their survival for future generations.
Since its founding in 1998, DMA has acquired works that are significant from an art history perspective
based on an objective acquisition policy. In 2018, in accordance with the revised acquisition policy
(revised in 2005), DMA acquired artworks that are representative of modern and contemporary art in Korea,
of that in Daejeon, and Korean new media art.
Of 34 newly acquired works, 18 were purchased by DMA, while the other 16 were received as donations
(5 from collectors and 11 from artists). Counting all of the artworks in series as individual pieces,
the total number comes down to 112. In order to minimize spatial restrictions and best convey the significance
and formative aspects of each artwork, this exhibition is featured in division as Part I and Part II.
Part I focuses on two-dimensional works, and Part II on three-dimensional works. The purpose of DMA
2018 New Acquisitions is to spotlight various themes within the flow of contemporary art over the past
50 years(from the 1960s to the 2010s).
