인간과 자연이 공존하여 만들어진 서울의 풍경 그리고 그 안에서 살아가는 사람들의 추억을 조명해 본다
서울의 초상 The Portrait of Seoul
■ 서울은 조선시대 이후부터 지금까지 600여 년 동안 우리나라의 수도로서 수많은 문화유산을 간직하고 있다. 초고층 빌딩, IT산업단지 등 최첨단 시설물과 함께 고즈넉한 역사의 무게를 느끼게 하는 경복궁, 남대문 등의 전통건물이 공존하고 있다. 전통과 현대가 서로 공존하는 도시 서울! 시민들이 가까이에서 전시를 관람할 수 있는 문화도시 서울! 그곳에 서울시립미술관 남서울분관이 있다. 100여년 전 준공되어 벨기에 영사관으로 사용되다가 지금은 서울시가 운영하는 문화시설로 바뀌었다. 고풍스런 문화재 건물을 새단장하여 2004년 미술관으로 재탄생된 남서울분관은 다사다난했던 서울의 현대 모습을 보여준다.
■〈서울의 초상〉展은 서울시립미술관 소장품 중에서 서울을 바라보는 다채로운 시선들을 보여주는 전시이다. 인간과 자연이 공존하여 만들어진 서울의 풍경 그리고 그 안에서 살아가는 사람들의 추억, 2개의 섹션으로 나누어 서울의 초상을 조명해 본 것이다. 이것은 남서울분관이라는 2층 건물의 특성을 바탕으로 1층에서 회색빛 대도시이면서도 아름다운 서울의 풍경을 전시하고, 2층에서는 서울에서 살아가는 사람들이 떠올려봄직한 추억들을 제시한다. 31명의 작가들이 바라본 서울의 초상이 양화, 한국화, 미디어아트, 판화, 조각, 공예, 사진 작품 46점으로 표현된다.
The Portrait of Seoul■ Seoul has been a capital of Korea for about 600 years from Joseon Dynasty and has many cultural heritages. With cutting edge facilities such as sky scrappers, IT industry cluster, Gyeongbokgung where can gaze tranquil weight of history and traditional building Namdaemun, the South Gate are coexisting. Seoul where tradition and modern coexist! Seoul, the cultural city where citizens can enjoy exhibitions right around the corner! At there, SeMA Nam Seoul located. It was used as consulate of Belgium 100 years ago, it has changed as cultural facility operated by Seoul Metropolitan Government. SeMA NAM Seoul reborn in 2004 as a museum by redesigning its antique cultural property shows the modern aspects of Seoul.
■ "The Portrait of Seoul" is a exhibition presenting various perspectives of Seoul. It displays works issuing daily of people and scenery showing features of Seoul among collection of SeMA. Exhibition is separated into two sections to illuminates remembrance of people who lives in Seoul and its scenery made by coexisting human and nature. This is based on building characteristics so as in first floor, it presents beautiful landscape of Seoul even it is greyish metropolitan city and in second flor, it proposes reminiscences of citizen. Total 46 pieces of works by 31 artists including western painting, korean painting, media art, prints, sculpture, craft and photography are exhibiting.
■ 1층 전시실〈서울의 풍경〉에서는 서울의 아침, 서울의 산, 서울의 빌딩, 한강 등 다양한 서울의 풍경을 감상할 수 있다. 안개 자욱한 서울의 아침, 봄에 바라본 고건축물, 아름다운 한강변 풍경과 한국전쟁 당시의 피난길을 소재로 한 작품은 그 시절의 애환을 잘 담아내고 있다. 또한 우리 민족의“피”로 상징되며 생명 순환의 원천인 한강을 바라보며 깊은 생각에 잠겨 볼 수 있는 미디어아트도 선 보인다.
■ In the first exhibition hall(The landscape of seoul), various landscape like the morning, mountain, building and river of seoul can be appreciated. The morning of brumous Seoul, old buildings viewed in spring, beautiful side of Hanriver and works treating refuge way of Korean War which well described joys and sorrows. Also the media art work makes visitors to mediate deeply as seeing the river, the origin or life circulation with symbolizing "blood" as our nation.

■ 2층 전시실〈서울의 추억〉에서는 1950~1970년대에 서울의 모습을 촬영한 사진작품을 포함하여 서울의 추억이 어린 정경을 다양한 매체로 담아낸다. 을지로, 노점상, 빨래터 등은 그 시절 가난했던 우리의 추억을 애잔하게 보여준다. 한때는 기피시설로 전락하기도 했다가 복원공사 이후 시민의 사랑을 받게 된 청계천을 소재로 한 작품들이 선보인다. 무질서하게 자리 잡은 판자집들, 지금은 철거되어 사라진 청계고가 아래를 걷는 사람들은 복원 전 청계천의 난개발 실상을 적나라하게 보여준다. 또한 봉천동, 신림동 등을 소재로하여 어제의 우리 동네 초상을 화폭에 담은 작품들도 보여진다.
■ In the second exhibition hall (The memory of Seoul) puts various memorable moments through diverse mediaincluding photographed Seoul of 1950~1970. Ulji road, street vendor, wash place is showing our recollection plaintively. Works related Cheonggyecheon area are also showing receiving much welcome to people after restoration where was degenerated as avoid facility for some period. Shingle housings in disorder, people walking under the Cheonggye elevated road now disappeared are candidly showing situations before restoration. Besides, works explained Bong Chun town, Shin Lim town in our past are displaying as well.
