인간은 세상의 고민거리가 끊임없이 우리의 주의를 들깨우는 탓에 우리는 우리의 희망적인 성향을 지켜낼 도구가 필요하다. 우리의 현실은 관계가 매우 불완전 하고 껄끄러우며 인간의 기본 욕구를 충족시키기 위해 어떠한 수단이나 방법을 찾아 문명의 발달과 더불어 자아실현을 하고자 한다.
도구는 그러한 인간의 소망을 이룰 수 있게 해주는 신체의 연작물로, 우리가 무언가를 필요로 할 때, 그것을 할 수 없는 무능함에 대응한 결과물이다.
그렇게 인간은 어떠한 도구들을 필요에 의한 무능함에 의해 만들어지고 그 욕망에 대한 지켜낼 사물들이 만들어 지고, 또 버려진다.
그 버려진 도구를 통해 인간의 내면의 세계를 재해석 하여 사용용도를 벗어나 해학적 이야기와 동력을 사용함으로서 도구의 움직임, 즉 전혀 다른 도구들에게 인간의 삶을 수레바퀴처럼 돌아다니게 하는 kinetic art (어떠한 수단이나 방법에 의하여 움직임을 나타내는 움직이는 예술)적 요소로 재해석 하였다. 그 시간과 공간사이의 관계를 이야기 하고 있는 것이다.
그렇게 관계와 관계 사이에서 비롯된 인간의 고통은 극복하는 것이 아니라 그냥 견딜 수밖에 없고, 그 견딤이 쓰임을 결정하게 되며 우리는 이 작가의 작품이 시공간을 초월한 관계와 관계 사이의 극복과정을 낱낱이 말해주고 있다.
시간이 흐르면서 변하는 환경과 관계의 사이에서 미묘한 긴장감과 공간이 그 무엇을 말해준다. 우리는 또 다른 시간과 공간을 꿈꾸고, 기억(회상)하고, 희망을 품고, 슬픔을 해학적으로 풀어나가며 마음으로 위로받고 균형회복과 자기이해, 그리고 마음의 성장을 하기위해 도구가 아닌 예술품으로서 그 도구의 역할을 재해석 할 수 있다. 그리고 이러한 작가의 작품은 동적인 관계에서 움직임과 도구, 그 관계사이의 시공간을 초월하는 그 안의 내제되어있는 예술의 목적과 본질 그 잃어버린 것을 되돌아보게 하고, 본질적으로 나약한 인간성을 보안해주고 보다 숭고한 가치를 향한 열망을 되살려주는 것이다. 그런 점에서 세상의 모든 사물과 도구 그 안에든 예술과 마찬가지 박주현 작가의 작품은 그렇게 개인과 공동체의 치유를 위해 존재하는 것이다.
그렇게 박주현 작가의 “도구이야기‘는 시작되었고, 또 다른 도구의 관계와 관계의 시공간 사이를 이야기 하고자 한다. 무서울 법한 도구들 안에서 결국 인간의 무능함과 풍자를 통해 자아를 찾고자 하는 인간사를 재미나게 웃으며 우리에게 들려준다.

We need a tool to defend our positive disposition as troubles of the world’s endlessly arouse our attention. Our reality is truly imperfect and awkward, thus, we wish to achieve self-fulfillment to satisfy basic human needs using any means along with the development of civilization.
The tool is an extension of human body that helps achieving this desire, the result to cope with inability to do something when we need that something.
Like this, the tool required by our inability is created, and the objects to defend our desire are created in consequence and then discarded.
By reinterpreting inner perception of human, discarded tool is reinterpreted as the movement of the tool outside the intended use with humorous story and motion that wheels around human life like an element of kinetic art(art that indicates the movement by certain means or methods). It is talking about the relationship between time and space.
Human suffering derived from the space between the relationships is not something we overcome, but endure. This endurance is what determines the use of the tool, and the work of the artist spells out the process of overcoming relationships that transcends time and space.
Subtle tension and space between the environment and relationship which changes with time tell us something. We dream of another time and space, remember(recall), hope, get consolation by resolving sadness humorously, recover balance, gain self-understanding, and reinterpret the role of the tool as an artwork to enrich our heart. The work of the artist not only lets us to look back what we have forgotten – motion and tool in dynamic relationship, purpose and nature of the art inherent in the relationship that transcends time and space, but also strengthens intrinsically weak human nature and revives the desire towards novel values. In this aspect, the work of Joo-Hyun Park, just like all objects and tools of the world and the art in it, exists to heal individuals and communities.
‘Tool Story’ of Joo-Hyun Park departed from this and wishes to talk about the relationship of other tools and its time and space. The artist, with a laugh, tells us about human life searching for self-fulfillment through human incompetence and satire using the tool that might be frightening.
