삶- 질주와 여유로운 유영 사이

최근 작업한 일련의 작품들은 군락을 이루어 같은 방향으로 또는 각기 다른 방향으로 나아가는 무리들의 유희를 이미지화했다. 바람에 흔들리는 풀들의 유희일 수도 있고, 강이나 바다에서 무리지어 유영하는 물고기떼일 수도 있고 어쩌면 같은 목적을 추구하여 함께 질주하며 나아가는 인간 군상일 수도 있고...

나의 인생에서 절대 빼놓을 수 없는 삶 그 자체인 여행, 특히 여행하면서 많은 작품 모티프를 얻는다. 길을 걷다가 문득 바람에 이리저리 춤추듯 흔들리는 풀들의 자유로운 유희가 눈에 들어왔다. 바람에 대적하지 않고 유연하게 몸을 맡기고 흔들리는 모습이 우리 민족성을 닮아있기도 하고 어쩌면 지나온 내 삶의 여정 같기도 하고. 때로는 잠시 머문 강가에서 어딘가로 무리지어 지나가는 송사리떼의 최종 목적지는 어디일까하는 생각을 시작으로 상념이 꼬리를 물었다. 처음 목적한 바는 이미 잊고 그저 무작정 앞다투어 달려나가는 아프리카 산양 스프링팍과 유사한 점이 많은 현대의 인간 군상을 닮았다고 생각하기도 하고. 어린 날 강가에서의 추억도 오버랩 되면서.

이번 작업은 계절에 따른 다양한 색상의 변화와 함께 바람에 흔들리는 풀들, 또는 물속을 유영하는 물고기떼의 속도감과 강한 생명력을 넣는데 주력했다. 더불어 함께 살아가는 생명체들의 속성이 질주와 여유로운 유영 사이에서 방황하는 인간의 삶과도 크게 다르지 않음을 확인하게 되는 의미있는 시간이기도 했다.

Life- Between Speeding and Lazy Swimming 

 The recent series of works have expressed the amusement of groups moving toward the same or different directions. They could be the amusement of grass moving by wind, a school of fish slowly swimming in the river or sea, or a large group of people speeding under the same goal. 

 Travel is the most essential part in my life. Especially, I get lots of work motifs during travel. Walking on the road, I saw a free amusement of grass moving by wind just like dancing. It just looked similar to our ethnicity flexibly shaking without standing against wind, or seemed to be the journey of my life so far. Sometimes standing on a riverside, I started thinking where would be the final destination for a school of rice fish. Thinking about the large group of modern people just looking like African goat, Spring Park thoughtlessly running as forgetting the initial goals, my childhood memories in a riverside were overlapped with it. 

 This work has focused on inspiring vitality and speed of a school of fish swimming in the water or grass moving by wind, on top of changes in various colors in accordance with season. It was also a meaningful time to see that the attributes of lives living together were not much different from humans' life wandering between speeding and lazy swimming.
