2GIL29 GALLERY에서는 12월 14일부터 12월 28일까지 서구적 형식과 동양적 정서를 접목시켜 작업을 해온 최선호의 개인전 ‘山水’를 개최한다.
서울대학교와 동 대학원에서 동양화를 전공한 후 뉴욕대에서 현대 회화를 전공하면서 독자적이고 지적인 최선호의 작품 세계를 선보여왔다. 그 뒤 SADI (삼성 아트 앤 디자인 인스티튜트)와 핚국전통문화학교에서 교수를 역임했으며 뉴욕, 시카 고, 독일, 일본 네덜란드 등 유수의 미술관과 갤러리에서 최선호의 작품을 전시를 했으며 그의 작품을 소장하고 있다.
최선호는 뉴욕공부를 마치고 지난 20여년 간 색과 면으로 된 미니멀리즘 조형으로 핚국의 미감을 알리고, 기하학적 단순 함과 절제된 화면분핛의 아름다움을 선보여 왔다. 이번 최선호의 개인전 ‘산수’는 유행과 시류에 휘둘리지 않고, 시대를 초 월핚 작가 개인의 독백이라 할 수 있다. 특히 이번 전시에서는 예술적인 삶과 이상적 미를 탐구해온 최선호 작가의 작업 에 뿌리를 이루고, 작가의 지적인 취향의 토양이 된 추사 김정희, 세잒, 바우하우스 등 그의 컬렉션과 작업실을 엿볼 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것이다. 아울러 예술에 대핚 간절핚 노력과 짂정핚 정싞만이 예술가의 길이라고 믿고, 그 고난의 길 에서 만난 그의 독창적인 21세기 수묵산수화도 기대해 본다.
2Gil29Gallery is pleased to present San Su, a solo exhibition of paintings by Sunho Choi (b.1957). Sunho Choi’s works graft sentiments of East onto a Western form of painting. Sunho Choi, San Su, will be on view December 14, 2017, through December 28, 2017, at 2GIL29 Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017, from 5-8 pm.
After studying both bachelor and masters in paintings at the Seoul National University, he went to New York University to study modern paintings. While studying in New York, he presented his own unique and intellectual world of his artworks. After his education, he went back to Korea and taught students at SADI (Samsung Art and Design Institute) and the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage as a professor. His works are exhibited and collected by world widely leading museums in New York, Chicago, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, and etc.
Sunho Choi, after his study abroad, for last 20 years, he tried hard to comprehend and introduce a sense of the beauty of Korea with minimal formative art filled with color and plane and the beauty of geometric simplicity in the restricted division of canvas. San Su, Sunho Choi’s solo exhibition, is a soliloquy of the artist who transcends age and not be swayed by the time. Also, in this exhibition, it is a great opportunity to look at the artist’s working space and his private collection of Chusa - Kim, Junghee, Cezanne, and Lamp of Bauhaus, and etc, which became the soil of his intellectual tastes, and rooted in the works of Sunho Choi who has constantly explored artistic life and ideal beauty. In addition, it is quite an expectation to see his 21st century’s landscape painting that has been encountered in his artist’s way, where it requires earnest effort and sincere spirit.
