김병기 개인전, 《여기, 지금》

가나아트는 김병기 화백의 103번째 생일날을 기념하며, 그의 근작과 대표작을 선보이는 개인전을 개최합니다. 오랜 기간 화업(畵業)을 이어온 김병기는 국내외를 오가며 실험한 현대적인 조형성을 기저로, 한국 근현대미술사에 주요한 족적을 남긴 원로화가입니다. 김병기에게 있어 추상미술은 ‘정신성’과 ‘형상성’의 공존입니다. 때문에 그의 작업은 추상과 구상, 그 틈새에 있으며 서로 다른 두 가지의 특성이 교차하는 지점에 놓입니다. 본 전시명 《여기, 지금(Here and Now)》은 그가 미국에서 접한 장 푸랑수아 리오타르(Jean François Lyotard, 1924-1998)의 글 『포스트모던의 조건(La condition postmoderne)』(1979)에서 따온 것입니다. 여기서 그가 말하는 ‘여기, 지금(here and now)’은 아무것도 일어나지 않은 현재의 시간으로 이는, 무한한 가능성이 담긴 빈 캔버스와 비교됩니다. 본 전시에서도 김병기는 추상과 구상의 틈새, 그리고 ‘여기, 지금’, 즉 무한한 가능성의 세계를 캔버스에 담아냈습니다. 따라서 《여기, 지금(Here and Now)》 전시는 그가 그려내는 무한한 가능성의 시간, ‘지금’을 볼 수 있는 좋은 자리가 될 것으로 기대합니다.

Gana Art is honored to present a solo exhibition showing ByungKi Kim’s recent works and major works, “ByungKi Kim: Here and Now”, celebrating his 103rd birthday, 10th April 2019.
ByungKi Kim who is one of the first abstract painters in Korean art history has experimented painting itself based on innumerable experiences in Korean and International art scene as a painter, critic, and curator. For Kim, abstract painting is the coexistence of 'spirituality' and 'formality.' So, his work is placed between abstract and figurative art and at the intersection of two different characteristics. The title of this exhibition, “Here and Now”, is originated from an essay La condition postmoderne (1979) by Jean François Lyotard(1924-1998). In the essay, “Here and Now” means the current time nothing happened yet and is compared to an empty canvas with infinite possibilities. For this exhibition, ByungKi Kim embodied infinite possibilities of the world on canvas. This solo exhibition will be a great chance to see the infinite time of possibility, Here and Now, by a master.
