Longing to be Light : 모두가 빛이 되고픈 시간

아트비앤은 이번 5월 3일부터 6월 23일까지 다양한 시간과 풍경을 담아 작업해온 이효연 작가의 개인전 <모두가 빛이 되고픈 시간>을 개최한다. 이번 전시는 작품 속 장면들은 스쳐 지나가는 순간 또는 경험되는 수많은 시간들을 담아 작업해온 작가의 또 다른 시간으로 채워진 20여점이 전시된다. 작품 <사이의 사이>, <이유 없이 그리고픈>, <겹쳐진 사이>, <빛은 사이로 수렴한다> 작품은 일상적인 풍경이 각기 다른 시간을 표현하고 화폭에 새로운 시각 판타지적 감성을 이끌어낸다. 

우리는 알지 못하는 어떤 대상과 대상이 존재하는 공간과의 수많은 관계를 형성하며 살아가고 있다. 작가는 서로에게 영향을 주고 받는 관계는 채워감이 아닌 비워감이라 보고 이를 통해서 가장 본질적인 우리의 모습을 찾아 갈 수 있음을 말해준다. 빠르게 변하는 현대사회에 살아가는 우리들의 모습을 다양한 시간이 담은 풍경을 통해 작가는 관람객으로 하여금 우리의 삶과 주변을 새롭게 바라볼 수 있는 시간을 제공해 주고 있다. 

ARTBN presents a solo exhibition <Longing to be Light> by LEE Hyoyoun, who has been working with various times and landscapes, on show from May 3 to June 23. In this exhibition, about 20 paintings have been shown in different story on the passing scenes or the many times that are experienced. The works <Interval Between>, <Without Reason>, <Overlapping>, and <Interprets between Light> represent a different time of everyday scenes and lead to a new visual fantasy emotion in paintings.

We are living a relationship with objects that we do not know and are developing a diverse network with spaces where objects exist. The artist tells us that the relationship that affects each other is not filled but emptied, so that we can find our most essential things through them. Through the scenes of our lives in a rapidly changing modern society, the artist gives viewers time to reflect on our lives and the surroundings.

Artist's Note 작가노트

등하교길을 30분씩 물을 따라 걸었던 적이 있다. 바람이 없는 날은 미동도 없던 물이 바람이 불자 물결이 생기고 흐른다. 흐르지 않는 물은 없을 것 같았는데, 세상엔 배우지 못한 것보다 경험하지 못한 것이 훨씬 많았다. 오래전 물을 바라보았을 땐 생각이 떠올라 좋았는데 시간이 흐른 지금은 생각이 사라져서 좋다. 생각은 한번도 그대로 머물지 않는데 요즘은 그 중 하고 싶은 것들이 명료해지고 있다. 커다란 타원의 급경사 부분을 느리게 통과하고 있는 듯 하다.
물은 푸르고 그것이 푸른 것은 하늘을 비추기 때문이라고 했다.
하늘이 푸른 건 그것이 깊고 높아서 라고 했다. 깊은데 아무것도 포함하지 않으면 그것은 푸르름이 된다고. 마치 백인의 눈동자에 멜라닌 색소가 없어서 푸른 눈동자를 갖게 된 것처럼. 그렇게 없음은 푸르름이 되고야 만다. 역으로 푸르름은 비어 있음이었고, 멀리서 그것을 그리워할 때 나는 비움보다 푸르름에 이끌렸다. 무엇과 무엇이 서로에게 존재의 당위 같은 거라고 해도 나를 설득시키는 건 푸른 하늘을 물빛 아래 반사하는 아름다운 풍광이곤 했다. 풍경이 아슬아슬하게 파문을 따라 흘러도 나는 물결속에 숨은 시옷을 여전히 주시할 수 있었다.
그 푸름이 시옷이 나를 한동안 이끌었고 이제는 도시의 구석마다에서 나는 서로를 반사하고 반추하는 풍경들을 카메라로 포착하곤 한다. 카메라는 우리의 눈과 달리 스스로를 반사하거나 흡수하거나 한다. 그것은 물에 하늘이 비추는 것과 크게 다르지 않고, 나의 촉수는 그런 반추를 다양한 각도에서 경험해낼 수 있도록 돕는다. 그들은 자주 빛과 그림자를 동반하였는데 빛과 그림자 원형과 반사된 현상은 어떤 규칙에 따라 스스로를 규정하거나 반사한다. 우리는 마침내 타인에게 투사된 자신을 통해 진정한 자신을 발견하게 되는 것처럼 그림들은 서로를 머금거나 반사하면서 서로에게 닮아 간다. 이렇게 많은 레이어를 동원하지 않더라도 반사하거나 반추하는 일상의 풍경들은 그것 자체만으로 이미 경이롭다. 나는 다양한 해석이 가능해지는 여러 갈래의 풍경들을 그리고 발견하고 싶다. 나는 어느새 그림을 그리는 행위를 통해 우리가 통과하는 삶에 보다 가까이 그리고 깊이 다가설 수 있을 것만 같고 당신은 그 곁에 있다.

I used to walk along the water for about 30 minutes every day. On days when there is no wind, the water is still, but
as soon as there is wind, ripples and movement appear. There seemed to be no water that did not flow, but there was much more in the world than I had still not learned. When I used to look at the water before, it was nice to have new thoughts and ideas. But these days when I look at the water, the complicated thoughts disappear. Thoughts do not stay as they are, these days things are becoming clear. They seem to be slowly passing through the steep part of a giant ellipse.
The water turned blue due from the blue light of the sky. The blue sky said it was deep and high. If it does not include anything deep, the water becomes blue. Just as the eyes have no pigment, so must it be blue. Conversely, the blue was empty, and when I missed it from afar, I was drawn to the blue rather than the empty space No matter what is supposed to b
e proved by each other's presence, the things that persuade me is a beautiful scene reflecting the blue sky under the water. Even though the scenery was breathtakingly rippling, I was still able to keep an eye on the seams hidden in the waves.
The blue and waves have led me for a while and now I am capturing the scenes reflecting each other in every corner of the city. Unlike our eyes, a camera reflects or absorbs itself. They are not unlike the sky and the water, and exploring them helps me experience them from different angles. Their accompanying light and shadows define and reflect themselves according to certain rules. Just as we finally find ourselves through the projection of others, the pictures come to resemble each other by absorbing or reflecting each other. Even if you do not mobilize so many layers, the everyday landscapes that reflect are already wonderful by themselves. I would like to discover and depict the various scenes that give rise to different interpretations. I stand beside you, and my art allows me to paint nearer and experience more deeply the life we pass through together.
