김미순 작가는 지난 30여 년간 유럽, 아시아, 미국에서 두루 활동한 한국의 예술가이다.
김미순 작가의 추상 수묵화 작업은 마침 1980년대 초에 한국에서 등장한 수묵화 운동과 때를 같이하였으며, 이후 ‘현대수묵회'의 회원으로 활동하였다.

1959년생인 김미순 작가는 서울, 파리, 홍콩, 뉴델리, 뉴욕에서 활동했으며, 현재 워싱턴에서 작업하고 있다.
단순함과 자연 세계를 중시하는 동양의 선 사상의 영향을 많이 받은 독특한 미학을 반영한 그의 작품은 감성을 포용하면서 마음과 감정을 자극하여 현실의 본질을 고찰하게 한다.

전통적인 먹의 색은 우주의 색을 나타낸다. 그의 작품에 나타나는 먹의 색은 감상자가 삶을 치유하고 도전할 수 있는 에너지를 공유한다.
화선지의 여백의 공간 속에서 어둠과 빛, 희망과 절망 사이의 본질적인 인간의 투쟁에서 태어난 붓의 획들은 자유와 해방의 순간을 이루어 내고 있다.

삶의 흔적을 그리다
나는 늘 삶의 목적, 쓰임새에 깊은 생각을 한다,
일회적이면서 반복될 수 없는 생의 일상을 살아가는 방법으로 긍정적 사고의 순간에 충실하기를 노력한다.
내가 화선지와 먹을 고집스럽게 일관적으로 쓰는 이유는 이런 나의 생각을 표현하는데 가장 적합할 뿐만 아니라 재료 자체가 일회적이고 반복하면 생명이 없어져 버리기 때문에 일필휘지로 작업해야 하는 재료의 특성과 같이 맞아떨어지는 것이다.
그림의 주제는 인간의 삶의 족적이다.
그림의 표현이 자연에서 인물로 그 인물들이 한 획으로 변화했던 것은 표현의 절제에서 생긴 필연적 결과이다.
한 획 한 획은 주어진 삶에 최선을 다하면서 살아가는 각 개인의 삶의 흔적을
에너지 파동으로 표현한 것이다.
테크닉은 일필에 함유된 먹색의 깊이로 개인의 에너지 파동의 다양성을 표현하고자 한 것이다.
앞으로도 가장 최소의 재료 사용으로 더 많은 것을 표현하고자 내실과 테크닉을 연구할 것이다.
