이길이구 갤러리는 3월 18 일 부터 4월 22일까지 나난 (b. 1979) 작가의 <TeaTime> 전시를 개최한다. 2021년도 이어 그녀의 세 번째 개인전으로 회화와 오브제를 조합한 신작들로 구성된다. 지난 다년간의 한국적 고유성에 대한 아름다움의 창작물에 대한 탐구의 작업물들로 과거와 현재가 입체적으로 전시장에 펼쳐진다. 많은 예술가들이 삶과 예술을 잇는 작업들을 선보여 왔지만, 나난 작가는 그중에서도 예술의 진정한 의미를 나눔과 교감에 있다고 생각하며 삶 속에서 다양한 방식으로 접점을 만드는 작가 중에 하나이다. 나난 작가는 우리나라 최초로 <윈도페인팅> 프로젝트를 시작한 작가로 대중의 스트리트 문화 교감을 시작으로 이어서 시들지 않는 사랑과 감사의 마음이 담긴 페이퍼 플라워 시리즈인 ‘롱롱타임 플라워’로 <나난의 플라워샵>으로 지금은 그녀를 따르는 펜덤이 있을 정도로 대중의 열렬한 지지를 받고 있다.

 

이번 이길이구 갤러리에서의 나난의 개인전 «TeaTime»은 오랜 경험 끝에 깊이 녹아 있는 우리의 종이 한지를 캔버스와 결합하여 나난 작가만이 표현할 수 있는 새로운 미학적 관점으로 빛을 발하는 «TeaTime» 시리즈는 이번 이길이구 갤러리에서 첫 선을 보이는 작가의 새로운 연작들이다. '영원한 아름다움'과 '영원함'을 추구하는 지속적인 그녀의 관심의 대상인 자연과 한국 문화의 전통 미학을 작품에 적극 활용한다. 매화, 한국의 전통차 문화 등 전통 도상을 자신만의 해석법으로 다양한 소재와 변주의 방식으로 전개된 양상들로 더욱 흥미롭다. 구상과 추상적 모티브가 스스럼없이 뒤섞이고, 오브제와 이미지가 교차하는 등 그녀의 작업은 모두 한국적 미에 대한 물음과 탐구를 담고 있다.

We are pleased to announce that we will hold a solo show of artist Nanan under the title of <TeaTime> starting from March 18 to April 22, 2023. This upcoming exhibition will be the third solo show for her, which is comprised of new works that painting and objects are combined. These art pieces are results from many years of study on beautiful creation upon Korean originality, which will bring the past and the present together in the show.  A lot of artists have shown works that connect life and art, but among those many artists, especially Nanan thinks that the true meaning of art lies in sharing, communicating and empathizing in various ways in life. And she got down to her career as an artist starting with the Window Painting which gives her the nickname ‘Window painter’ as for the first artist doing the window painting in Korea, showing her way of communicating with the public embodied with the spirit of street culture. And through the ‘Long Long Time Flower’ series that was to express unabated love and feeling of gratitude was displayed in a form of performance art “Nanan’s Flower shop”, she gained fame and earned the enthusiastic response and support from the public.

 

Her new series of works, TeaTime, shine with a new aesthetic perspective that only Nanan can express by combining Hanji and canvas after a long search and experience, which will unfold to the public for the first time. She actively applies the beauty of nature and Korean traditional aesthetics, which have been her continuous interest, to the new series of work in pursuit of ‘everlasting beauty’ and ‘eternity’. Furthermore, multi-faceted aspects of her unique interpretation towards various mixed motifs of traditional iconic such as plum blossom and Korean traditional tea culture, and the manner of how they are presented seem quite intriguing. They are free from the strain of representation and abstract, and objects and images are integrated and overlapped, which leads viewers to questions and explorations of her for Korean beauty.
